Mrs. Chalfin's students travel back in time to ancient civilizations. They experience the daily lives of the people who lived during these times as well as analyze the impact these civilizations have on our world today. Students have developed a classroom webpage where they keep daily records of what they are learning as well as compiling a page of websites for students to access the information highway. Gail is currently in the language department at Corona Del Sol High School, she has been a dynamic force with the district and seen much growth. Initially Gail started at Tempe High, and has been instrumental in the opening of both Marcos de Niza and Corona del Sol. She has been a huge influence on the success of many former students. In addition to her teaching Gail has been a volunteer for many projects, including volunteering with "Pet Therapy" at Desert Samaritan Hospital for the past five years, and currently with the Children's Crisis Center. She brings her Spanish classes to life with her innovative workshops and projects.

Mr. Waltuch is an outstanding 7th grade educator in the Tempe Elementary District. In addition to his outstanding classroom activities, he has just recently been the teacher sponsor for three of his students in the Future City Project. Their Future City Project was for an underwater city complete with a working model of the city. This project earned two awards from the judging committee. One of the awards was for business practices, and the other was an efficient transportation award.

For the previous 32 years Terry has made learning fun for hundreds of students who have attended Kiva, Hopi, and Zuni Elementary Schools in Scottsdale. Terry enjoys working with 5th grade students, and has a real zeal for the curriculum of U.S. History. Of major importance to Terry is students setting goals for themselves. One of the activities Terry helps with is co-sponsoring the student council for the past 10 years at Zuni. With his emphasis on teaching leadership skills the council raised in excess of $2500.00 last year. From Terry's efforts over the years some of the recognition and awards he has received are the America West- Phoenix Suns, teacher of the Month, The Saturn Teacher of the Month, and the D.A.R.E. Educator of the Year award for the State of Arizona. Congratulations Terry and keep up the Great Work!

HOSTS Program Coordinator
Jennifer Pendar is starting her third year as HOSTS (Help One Student to Succeed) Program Coordinator at Tsaile Public School. Jennifer's caseload consists of students who are achieving two years below their peers in reading. Student's are put on individualized lesson plans based on their individual needs. Jennifer's primary objective is to match each of her students with an adult or student mentor. These mentors work one-on-one with a student, on lessons designed by her. She has had success encouraging Tsaile's Jr High students to mentor 3rd graders and any adults she can find to spare 45 minutes a week to work with her students. Jennifer's passion is her students, and helping them to become proficient readers and respectful members of society. If you would like to mentor a student, please call her to set up a time.
